FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Holidays on the East Side are Getting Ugly, December 12th.

With 10 murals inspired by tacky holidays sweaters, four drop-points for warm winter clothing, two choirs filling the neighborhood with joy and one community Christmas photo kiosk, the East Side will be filled with outrageous yuletide cheer December 12th.

Out on the streets, the Beauty of the Ugly Holiday Sweater Art Competition kicks off at 9 AM with 10 teams of artists decking out East Side store front windows with murals inspired by ugly Christmas sweaters.  Judging of the murals takes place at 2 PM, with the winner announced shortly after 3 PM.  From 1PM to 3 PM carolers from Saints Peter & Paul Parish will fill the neighborhood with song from the steps of the East Library.

Indoors, drop boxes for the neighborhood-wide warm winter clothing drive, to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Milwaukee, can be found at Beans & Barley, Educators Credit Union, Live! on North and Westbury Bank.  The clothes will be donated to the SDVP thrift store. Profits from the thrift store aide charitable efforts such as food and clothing shares across Milwaukee.

From Noon to 4 PM guests can nosh on holiday treats and enjoy The Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, dressed in their favorite Christmas sweaters at Whole Foods Market on the corner of Prospect and North Aves.

After hours, the Ugly Sweater celebration continues with parties at Live! on North, Yield and Cans.  Partial proceeds from the Live! on North party will also benefit the mission of the SVDP.   The Onion’s 5lb Christmas Party at BBC, featuring Fever Marlene, will also have drink deals all night long, with extra special deals for those who don their yuletide attire, and ticket discounts for those who bring a canned food item for Hunger Task Force.
