THE EAST SIDE ANNOUNCES 2013 SUMMER SOULSTICE MUSIC FESTIVAL HEADLINERS
FREE EVENT CELEBRATES ITS 13TH YEAR OF SHOWCASING EMERGING ARTISTS

Local top music acts and emerging artists will converge again this year at Milwaukee’s only celebration of local music and the longest day of the year at the East Side’s Summer Soulstice Music Festival on Saturday, June 22nd from noon to midnight on E. North and Murray Avenues.  The festival returns for its 13th year and continues the tradition of showcasing Milwaukee’s homegrown music talent. It is hosted by the East Side Business Improvement District and in partnership with Made In Milwaukee.  The event features three stages of local music along with all the ingredients needed to celebrate the rites of the summer solstice:  food and spirits from the businesses of the East Side neighborhood, arts & crafts vendors, creation stations for kids of all ages, dodgeball, Milwaukee Bike Polo Club matches, lawn bowling and more.   

The headliner acts of this year’s East Side Summer Soulstice Music Festival:

Kane Place Record Club-This high energy 6-piece band that appears to be three times its size is a top draw in the local music scene. Self-described as offering a mix of indie, jazz, pop & soul.

Hugh Bob and the Hustle- This  ‘north’ country alternative rock band fronted by Hugh Masterson has garnered favorable comparisons to Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, John Prine, Alan Jackson, and Dwight Yoakam. A self-titled album was released to much acclaim in October.  

I’m Not A Pilot – A Radio Milwaukee ‘Band of the Year’ and a Shepherd Express ‘Best Rock Band,’ this group blends indie, classical and pop. Comprised of Mark Glatzel on vocals and keys, Peter Thomas on cello, Steve Vorass on drums, and Adrian Esguerra on bass and backing vocals. This Wisconsin Area Music Industry Award (WAMI)  Nominee returns to the Summer Soulstice Music Festival by popular demand.

De La Buena- This Milwaukee powerhouse act electrifies audiences with their own brand of Afro-Cuban and Latin Jazz.  Growing from a trio to a 10-piece band, this WAMI nominee comes home to their roots at the Summer Soulstice Music Festival.
                                                               

Hayward Williams- A rising star in the Americana music genre; merging folk, blues, rock and R&B. His powerful, husky voice and beguiling guitar has been called atmospheric and nets rave reviews across the globe, most recently from Ireland and the UK. His  Latest of three albums ,’ Haymaker’ was released in October.

Evan Christian- A local award winning recording artist, music  producer, flamenco guitarist and world traveller. Evan Christian discovered the guitar as a teenager, and without formal instruction has progressed to become one of the most dynamic and sought after solo performers in the world. In 2005, Evan released his debut CD Fuego, featuring Nuevo flamenco guitar, winning him international acclaim and providing him the opportunity to perform with some of Spain’s top flamenco players.  In 2007, he was voted Best Acoustic Musician by the readers of the Shepherd Express. In 2008 Evan Christian won a WAMI AWARD for Guitarist of the Year and was voted one of Milwaukee’s hottest 100 by readers of OnMilwaukee.com. He released a second CD ‘The Mosaic Vol 1’ featuring the international hit singles ‘Lovers Be,’ ‘Breakdown’, and Bulerias del Barrio.’ Evan has recently completed his 3rd album entitled 4LIFE. He and his quartet are featured regularly at The Jazz Estate.
