EAST SIDE BUSINESS SNAPSHOT: COBALT GLASSWORKS
We visited artist and stained glass designer Jon Schroder at his Cobalt Glassworks studio located at 2400 N. Murray Avenue. Jon has been creating incredible stained glass work for more than 20 years and has been at his studio on the East Side for more than five years completing work for many of the historic homes in the neighborhood, throughout the city and state.
Jon professionally worked on stained glass as he studied art education at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He went on to work within the Milwaukee Public Schools as an art educator. While he was teaching he continued to worked on stained glass projects and decided to take on the profession full-time. Jon still makes time to teach and works with students of all ages. He offers personalized classes for private groups at his studio, programs at Milwaukee schools and has taught at Betty Brinn Children’s Museum.
Cobalt Glassworks specializes in high quality custom stain glass work, repairs and restoration. Jon has a rare and massive collection of antique glass for restoration work and works with new glass to create custom pieces for clients. His stained glass expertise covers everything from large historic window restorations to large and small new custom windows, lamps and gifts. Jon works across design worlds collaborating with architects, furniture designers and artists to create one of a kind pieces.
Outside of his studio, you will be able to find Jon at the 2017 Maker Faire Milwaukee, September 23 and 24 at Wisconsin State Fair Park.
