Greenwich Park Apartments

This is a proposed affordable housing development for the city parking lot on Murray/Thomas/Farwell Aves and also includes development plans for the adjacent US Bank parking lot. The City Plan Commission held a hearing on Monday, Oct. 28 to consider a change to the original plan previously approved for the site.
Details: Mercy Housing Lakefront Inc. is proposing a two-phase project. First phase would entail a six-story, 56 unit residential building with 100 residential parking , and the second phase would include a second six-story building with up to 44 additional residential units and parking. Currently there are 35 public parking spots on the lot and 25 public parking spots are included in the development proposal. An additional 10 parking spots would be added to the street on Murray Ave since the driveways would no longer be needed on that side. The building will be a mix of affordable and market-rate apartments. There will be units for families making less than 30 percent of the area’s median income and units for families making as much as 60 percent of the median.
The East Side Architectural Review Board recently approved the general massing and construction details for this project. The developer told the ARB that solar panels will be added and grants will be applied for to make the building LEED certified to include a green roof.
The project’s future is tied to whether it receives affordable housing tax credits from WHEDA. This first round of city zoning approvals is required in order to apply for the tax credits. If it recieves the tax credits the project would begin in 2015.

Prospect Mall Apartments

As you can see by the photo and in this photo gallery by Urban Milwaukee, the original mall, now owned by Robert Joseph of Joseph Property Development is redeveloped with larger window openings. The first business announced as a new tenant is Potbelly Sandwich Shop, known for featuring live music by local musicians in each location. Work has begun on the upper new addition to the original building dating back to 1912. When completed the building will feature 10,000 square feet of commercial space and 52 new apartments with great views. The East Side Architectural Review Board recently approved some revisions to the building materials that will be used on the upper new addition to the building. Learn more about the project>>

Oakland & North Aves

Site preparation is underway on this most visible corner on the East Side to become a new mixed-use development by developer Robert Joseph of Joseph Property Development. The East Side Architectural Review Board met three times on this project to make sure the design was something special for the corner. There is still debate over this design on the East Side’s facebook page.
What will really define the look of this building will be the business(es) that fill the street level floor of the place. When completed there will be 6,000 square feet of first floor commercial space and 39 new apartments above.

On the corner of Cramer & E. North Ave new pillars rise from this very active construction site. By the end of 2014 you will see a new East Library with additional retail space and 99 apartments above. (The East Library is temporarily housed at 2430 N. Murray Ave during construction of this project.) The Milwaukee Public Library just announced the two artists that were chosen to create public art for inside the new East Library.
