North Ave Public Parking
Maryland Ave Public Parking
Construction for the North Avenue Street Improvement Project began on September 16. The work for the project will be completed in two stages. Stage one work will take place on the south side of the street and stage two work will take place on the north side of the street. Each stage is estimated to take approximately four weeks.
During both stages, E. North Ave. will accommodate westbound traffic only between N. Humboldt Boulevard and N. Farwell Ave. Two-way traffic will be accommodated between N. Farwell and N. Prospect Aves.
No parking will be permitted on E. North Avenue throughout the project limits.
This week, work continues on the southside of the street on the curb, sidewalk ramps, and bus boarding islands, with concrete pouring expected to occur on Friday, October 4.
Next week, work will continue on remaining southside items and concrete removals will begin on the northside of the street.
The week of October 14, the project anticipates the completion of the southside concrete work and to begin working on construction of the northside curb.
Next week, Nov. 4-6 and Nov. 9, an asphalt paving operation will take place on E. North Ave. from N. Humboldt Blvd. to N. Prospect Ave as part of the traffic safety project taking place on the corridor. There will be varied impacts and closures associated with this work. Click here for a graphic with location details.
Change in Paving Schedule for Week of Nov. 4
The week of November 4, a four-way paving operation will take place on E. North Avenue throughout the project corridor. Due to the forecast on Monday, November 4, the paving schedule was moved back one day. Work will take place from approximately 7 AM to 5 PM each day, with closures reopening each night. the staging for each day of the paving operation is as follows:
Tuesday, November 5
Current traffic pattern (one-way westbound) maintained
Mill eastbound lanes from Humboldt to east of Bartlett
Wednesday, November 6
North Avenue closed to traffic between Humboldt and e/o Bartlett
Mill westbound lanes from Humboldt to e/o Bartlett
Pave all lanes from Humboldt to e/o Bartlett
Thursday, November 7
North Avenue closed to traffic between Oakland and Prospect
Mill and pave all lanes from Oakland to Prospect, skipping Farwell and Prospect intersections which will remain open
Saturday, November 9
Farwell intersection closed in AM, Prospect intersection closed in PM
Farwell and Prospect intersections milled and paved
Paving schedule is subject to change based on weather, project progress and material availability.
Paving operations will not be taking place tomorrow, 11/6.
Second Change in Paving Schedule:

Paving work is complete.
The paving operation on E. North Avenue is complete and traffic has been returned to its previous detour route.
Remaining work on the project is as follows:
The project is on schedule to be complete by November 30.
Next spring, crews will return to install green, high friction pavement marking on concrete for bike lanes.
The City of Milwaukee's multimodal improvement project on E. North Avenue from N. Humboldt Boulevard to N. Prospect Avenue is complete and the street is now open to two-way traffic.
Improvements made during the project include:
Next spring, crews will return for landscaping and restoration work, and to install the green, high friction pavement marking on the concrete bus boarding islands for bike lanes. No major detours or long-term closures are anticipated with this work.
The project was completed on schedule, and the project team would like to sincerely thank residents and businesses for their patience throughout the project.
