THE EVOLVING ART SHELTER

We’ve got something to add to your ‘art stops’ list but you won’t need to squeeze it into the packed schedule of Gallery Night/Day. In fact, you should visit when it’s raining. The evolving art piece is simply known as The East Side’s signature bus shelter with adjoining business shelter on Oakland and North Avenue. It’s easy to miss now that it’s set against the backdrop of looming new development projects, most recently the new 4-story mixed-use building right across the street. Mini donuts are a staple on the corner, with the latest operator Chubby's Drive Thru adding patio seating.

KEEPING THE EAST SIDE CLEAN

There’s a familiar face back on the streets of the East Side, keeping the area litter-free and friendly. The East Side Business Improvement District has hired Henry Brown to maintain a clean & friendly neighborhood. Henry formerly worked for Riverworks and was at one time assigned to the East Side BID as part of a litter /street maintenance contract with the organization. This time Henry has launched his own business and is working exclusively on the East Side. He’ll not only clean-up in front of businesses but makes rounds in the immediate neighborhood after busy weekends.

PREPARING FOR THE NEXT 5 – 10 YEARS

The East Side Business Improvement District, in partnership with The City of Milwaukee has kicked off a retail market and planning study to guide retail recruitment/retention and future development of the East North Avenue area, with a special focus on the future of E. North Avenue from Oakland to the Milwaukee River. The East Side BID has hired CE Planning Studio of Milwaukee and Business Districts Inc. for this planning initiative.

OUTDOOR ART CHOSEN FOR NEW EAST LIBRARY

Three imaginative outdoor art pieces on North Ave and Cramer Street will serve as the gateway to the new East Library entrance. The artist was chosen by popular vote and happens to be both an Eastsider and an East Library user.
