The East Side Business Improvement District has canceled its Summer Soulstice Music Festival, which was scheduled to celebrate its 20th anniversary on June 20.

The festival is a one-day event held on East North Avenue on Milwaukee's east side neighborhood. Instead of the physical event, the East Side BID is adjusting to a virtual Tribute To Soulstice event, which will run from April 27 to June 14.

“This event is too beloved to let it pass without a tribute or acknowledgment, so we decided to host a virtual Tribute to Soulstice instead this year,” East Side BID executive director Elizabeth Brodek said in a press release. “We’re trying to be as innovative as our businesses in this pivot, and support those that have supported us. The Tribute will allow people to relive the community that makes Soulstice so awesome, and support businesses that have sponsored the event over the years.”

The East Side BID is encouraging people to submit their favorite Summer Soulstice memories in the form of pictures, videos or written accounts. People who submit their memories will be entered in a weekly drawing for a gift card from a local business that has supported the festival over its 20 years. Every memory submitted counts as an entry for the gift card drawing. The East Side BID is encouraging those interested to share their memories via the BID's social media pages or at intern@theeastside.org.

The featured businesses that are awarding gifts cards are Milwaukee Film, Crossroads Collective, Hooligans, Ian’s Pizza, Izzy Hops Swig & Nosh, Hacienda Beer Co. and Von Trier.

The East Side BID will launch the collection of memories on June 20.

“It won’t be as good as being together, but at least we’ll get to look back on some great times,” Brodek said.
